Junction Street Family Practice and Cambewarra Mountain Health have been providing medical services to the Nowra region for over 40 years. From its beginnings as a solo general practice in the 1970s it has grown to offer a wide range of medical care.

New Patients at Junction Street

We have a number of doctors who are accepting new patients, the receptionists can help you with booking an appointment. There will usually be a wait of several days for an appointment if you are a new patient, although we will do our best to accommodate you if you need an appointment for an urgent matter.

Why Are We Here?

We want to improve people's lives.

How Will We Do It?

We focus on what matters most for each person.

What Do We Do?

We provide a sanctuary for the whole of your health care, in a dynamic practice.

We believe our patient centred care should be:

    Comprehensive

We recruit, train and retain staff with a wide range of interests within general practice, ensuring high quality “cradle to grave” care for our patients.

Our services are comprehensive with respect to both breadth and timespan. This includes pregnancy care, child and baby health, occupational and sports medicine, mental health, chronic complex care and aged care. We attend to nursing home residents, and guide end of life palliation. We run dedicated clinics in skin, women’s health, lung disease and immunisations, as well as maintaining the capacity to perform minor procedures and urgent care. We maintain a keen interest in First Nations peoples’ health and refugee health. We provide on site diagnostic services such as cardiac monitoring, lung function tests, arterial pressure tests, and finger prick blood tests.

In addition to General Practice services we also house some specialist medical and allied health services, including pathology collection, vascular surgery, podiatry, exercise physiology, dietetics and psychology.

    Team Based

We encourage patients to have a regular GP who takes responsibility for their comprehensive care, with attention to prevention and planning for future health needs. For urgent or unexpected problems all our doctors will work together to make sure you have continuity of care anytime your usual GP is unavailable.

All our staff at Junction Street Family Practice and Cambewarra Mountain Health are dedicated to achieving the best health outcome for you, and all have valuable roles in your care.

At Health Sanctuary practices patients utilise and value the expertise of our administrative staff who are often your first point of contact in any crisis. Your care will often be enhanced by a team member trained in particular skills, such as a Medical Practice Assistant, Medical Student, Registered Nurse, or GP registrar, working with your chosen GP.

    Up To Date

Ongoing education is a priority at Junction Street Family Practice and we are actively learning and teaching all the time. This means that you are always getting the most up to date, quality general practice medical care.

Patients often have the opportunity to either see a medical student or have a medical student sitting in on their consultation.  By engaging with the students you help us in our passionate commitment to the training of our future medical workforce. We are a teaching practice for GP trainees [“Registrars”] who have completed their hospital years and are becoming specialists in General Practice.

You may also occasionally be attended by a student nurse, or be part of the ongoing training of one of our Medical Practice Assistants.

Apart from the trainees, all of our doctors and nurses participate in regular clinical meetings, ensuring we always have fresh minds bringing new ideas and methods into our practices.

    Innovative

Our focus on getting you the best possible health outcome means we are always looking for ways to improve what we do, with regular Quality Improvement sessions reflecting on the challenges and opportunities we face. This can include technological advances, such as video and telephone consulting, or the use of our website for online booking, prescriptions and referrals. It also involves new ways of working, such as the rapid adjustments to help curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus, nurse-led immunisation clinics, and our ‘urgent care’ style nursing and procedure room. A number of our doctors have trained in the delivery of Shared Medical Appointments - a fusion of information sessions with clinical care in a group setting. So far this has been applied to management of obesity, diabetes, and smoking cessation, with more areas in development.

We encourage regular patients to bypass the perpetually busy telephone system to make use of the willingness of our doctors to provide some services by online request.
